United Visual Artists

United Visual Artists – This guys are amazing, I saw them play live with Massive Attack in September they were awesome. Really interesting visuals, simple ideas done really well and very political too. Really good collaboration. This work is from an installation at the V&A in London.

I’m really interested in light installations and think that they would work well as street art. I think light can be quite powerful especially at night but find it elegant and soft as well.

The Light House

The Light House

I wish I knew where this was from and how it was done. If its lights inside or shining on to the end of the house. This is exactly the kind of thing there should be more of in urban spaces and is a really playful example of installation street art.

I'm in love with Graydon Sheppard

Graydon is a filmmaker and photographer and I just love his work and aesthetic. He lives in Toronto, USA. I really like his innovative animated fashion photography posted above.

His film work is also very interesting having written and directed 2 short films he hopes to direct a feature length film too eventually.

This is his short film ‘Again’. I really like the subtle style, its talking about a failed relationship and regrets and accomplishes this well by uses of domestic footage and subtle style connoting a sense of emptiness.

Secret Cinema

Secret Cinema

This project based in London and now Brighton shows mainly feature length films and playing on the notion of secrecy branded in a cinematic style. It is also sponsored by Nokia which makes it quite different from Outdoor AV (us being free and grassroots) They also charge for tickets.

Actually we are quite different sharing only the fact that we utilize spaces as varied as a car park to a field and look for canvases in the urban structure of city living. Taking advantage of the street furniture and reclaiming space for sociability and passing on of creativity and art are key to Outdoor AV.

I do like the way they encourage audience participation by setting fancy dress to the nature of the films, it does make it a more playful experience.

They seem to have started small and got interest early on with the support of Nokia, i’m not sure about this decision and how it would affect a project, surely anyone with an interest, particularly financial, will ultimately have thier own say in how things progress. Perhaps changing the project into a more commercial or profitable practice. I am notadverse to this in principle as long as the ethics were right and artistic content was not affected……
